Club Meeting - Tuesday 13th November

Newly elected Chairperson, Andy Rimmer, opened the meeting and extended a warm welcome to visiting members of the newly formed Rainbow Camera Club who had travelled from North Leitrim to observe the format of our meeting.
Andy gave presentations to retiring Committee members Joe Kennedy, Paraic Brennan and Christopher O'Connor and thanked them for their valued contributions to Boyle Camera Club over the years.

Presentation
JM Presentation - The Critical Eye - BCC Meeting Nov 2012

The club's new technical advisor, Jason Mallard, gave a very thought provoking and entertaining talk titled “Exercising Our Critical Eye”. Jason emphasised the benefits of reflective learning. He explained the importance of learning from our photographic mistakes by using the tools we have such as other club members, the LCD screen on the camera and feedback from the Flickr community. He demonstrated the importance of reviewing our photos, looking out for common mistakes and identifying ways to improve the image.

Motivation
Desmond O'Dwyer presented this month's Motivation. The theme for November was "Lines - No Photoshop". Mary Lane and Marion Noone judged the entries and gave a critique on their selection. Entries can be viewed HERE.

Group Presentations
During the meeting, the Advanced, Intermediate and Beginners Groups held brief discussions in the following areas;
The Beginners, led by Des O'Dwyer, discussed the Exposure Triangle and how ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed are interlinked.
The Intermediate group, led by Brian Munnelly, discussed and demonstrated Time-Lapse photography. (See related thread in the Forum)
Tony Murphy introduced Advanced members to a selection of the best magazine publications on the subject of creative photography and talked about getting stuck into a personal photographic project for the Winter.

Other Items
Andy asked that members who have images held by the IPF, from the 'not so recent' competitions, to contact him, as he is trying to get these returned. Club members that had their images retained after the National Print and Projected Images competition last February are very upset by the fact that images have not been returned and that they were possibly put forward by the IPF to other competitions without members being notified. Of the 18 images held by the IPF, two were returned to one member and both of these were damaged! When contacted, a representative of the IPF said they were 'attempting to locate' the images belonging to the club! Considering the expense that members incur for printing and mounting, and the good will BCC expressed by hosting the Regional Meeting in Forest Park, it is disappointing that the IPF seems not to have any provision for the safe return of work.

Andy asked club members who would like to give a short presentation about a particular image or topic at the club meeting to contact a member of the committee.

The Annual Club Christmas Party will take place on Friday 7th of December in Daly’s. Members that did not indicate their intention to attend during Tuesday's meeting should do so by contacting the club secretary via info@boylecameraclub.com ASAP. Partners are welcome. Food will be provided. Cost is €10.00 per person.

Details of a CLUB PHOTO SHOOT later this month will be posted here shortly. Members feel free to make location suggestions on the FORUM.

Next club meeting will take place on Tuseday 11th December at 8pm in St. Joseph's Resource Centre, Boyle.
