Boyle: A Moment in Time 2018 Exhibition

Boyle Camera Club is launching a unique and historic photographic exhibition titled 'Boyle: A Moment in Time 2018'. The launch night will be held in the old Xtra-Vision Shop, Main Street, Boyle (opposite Boyle Country Meats), at 8pm on the night of Thursday 1st November.

Like every society in Ireland, Boyle is changing. Our community is made up of people from a range of backgrounds, cultures and places. One thing they do have in common is a decision to live or work in Boyle, and they are all actively shaping how our community works and the way our town will develop beyond 2018.

The ‘Boyle: A Moment in Time 2018’ exhibition is part of a project carried out by Boyle Camera Club, with the support of Roscommon County Council. The project set out to document and capture, at one point in time, the people who live, work, visit and travel through Boyle on a typical day. The aim of the project was to photograph as many of those people as possible, creating a historic visual record of the town and its people. On the 11th of May last, members of the Boyle Camera Club set up an outdoor photo studio on the Crescent in Boyle and spent 12 hours photographing the people who make Boyle the vibrant town it is today.

The upcoming exhibition will showcase a selection of 30 framed photographs from the project. The entire project will also be displayed digitally. The exhibition will continue to run on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd, of November, from 11am to 6pm each day. The exhibition will then move to Áras an Chontae, Roscommon County Council.

Boyle Camera Club invites everyone to take the opportunity to come and view the 'Boyle: A Moment in Time 2018', the exhibition in Boyle or Roscommon Town.

The 'Typology' Challenge

We would like to thank everyone who attended last nights meeting, especially all the new people who sampled the club for the first time. We would also like to thank John Mee for his excellent presentation on the night.

We briefly discussed the members projects which are ongoing - 'The Alphabet Challenge' and 'Typology Challenge' and we mentioned that we would post some information regarding the challenges on the website.

We have set the December meeting as a deadline to complete The Alphabet Challenge' and 'Typology Challenge', with a view to showing the finished work at the December meeting. So its not too late to get involved and take part. Both challenges are an excellent way of training your eye to see photos all around you and to get thinking about taking photos.

The following are some useful links for Typology Challenge (we will discuss the Alphabet Challenge separately).

This article will give you an overview of Photographic Typologies.
Also, check out a previous post on the website here.
Tony Murphy put a video together, demonstrating how to put your Typology together here. You will find the templates Tony uses here.

We would encourage you to take part in the challenge. Hopefully you find this post helpful - If you have any questions, just ask a member for help or contact us via email (boylecameraclubinfo@gmail.com).

The following are examples of Typologies put together by members previously.

Boyle: A Moment in Time 2018

Capturing the people and faces that shape our community

We are delighted to announce our upcoming project 'Boyle: A Moment in Time 2018'. This is an ambitious project aimed at photographing the people of Boyle on a particular day, Friday May 11th, to create a lasting and historic record. A selection of the photos will form an exhibition later in the year. See more details below.

On Friday, May 11th, Boyle Camera Club members will photograph people in the town of Boyle for a special project – ‘Boyle: A Moment in Time 2018’.

Like every society in Ireland, Boyle is changing. Our community is made up of people from a range of backgrounds, cultures and places. One thing they do have in common is a decision to live or work in Boyle, and they are all actively shaping how our community works and the way our town will develop beyond 2018.

The ‘Boyle: A Moment in Time 2018’ project aims to document and capture, at one point in time, the people who live, work, visit and travel through Boyle on a typical day. The project aims to represent as many of those people as possible, whether they be people from local businesses and workplaces, teachers, school-goers, farmers, retired, members of local clubs and societies, everyone is welcome.

The Boyle Camera Club will set up an outdoor photo studio at 9am on the Friday morning, on the Crescent in Boyle (outside the Courthouse). Members will spend 12 hours photographing the people who make Boyle the vibrant town it is today. The project is supported by Roscommon County Council. There is no charge to take part in the project and a selection of the images will form part of an exhibition later in the year.

We would like to invite you, your family, friends or colleagues to drop by and have your portrait taken, and be part of this special project. So if you are heading to school or work, meeting friends or family in town, out shopping, going for lunch, collecting the kids or heading out for the night, whatever you are doing – why not take a moment out of your day to be a part of A Moment in Time. We look forward to seeing you there!
