Boyle Camera Club - Second Annual Photographic Exhibition 2009

Boyle Camera Club - Photographic Exhibition - Opens 21st July 2009

Boyle Camera Club will have another fantastic exhibition of photographs on public display!

Tuesday July 21st, sees the opening of our Second Annual Exhibition as part of Boyle Arts Festival. The display of stunning photographs takes place in the Town Council Room of Boyle Library, which is in the basement of King House.

Members and guests are invited to toast our success at an informal launch at 7pm that evening.

The ‘Love Where You Live’ exhibition will then continue until the end of the Festival on Friday, July 31st. Admission is free and entrance is via the main Library, when usual Library opening hours apply*. There is an exception on Sunday July 26th and Monday July 27th, when the Library is closed – on those two days only, we have access to the exhibition through King House, from 11am until 5pm.

Please come and see what exceptional talent we have amongst our members – everyone is welcome. We have beginners using compacts and experts using the latest SLRs, but you may be hard pressed to tell the pictures apart! All of the pictures will be on sale – mounted and framed, or as unmounted prints. There will also be members’ photos displayed on a slide show which will run continuously during the exhibition. Proceeds from the sale of prints will again go to charity – this time, we have chosen to support St Vincent de Paul.

Please encourage your friends and neighbours to come along and view our images; there’s an eclectic interpretation of the theme ‘Love Where You Live’ – come and see what we made of it! Also, look out for our display in Brogan’s window in Shop Street, advertising the club and pointing people towards the Library exhibition.

Members please note that we are still in need of sitters for the exhibition. The rota is now available to view in the Úna Bhán Craft Shop in the grounds of King House, and will also be available on the opening night for you to add your name to!

*Boyle Library is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1pm until 8pm, and on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am until 1pm and from 2pm until 5pm.

Club Meeting 8th July 2009

Club Meeting Boyle Photo Shoot June 2009
'Chilling' - One of the splinter groups of photographers that descended on Boyle last Wednesday evening.

Taking advantage of a very fine evening, this month's meeting deviated slightly from the usual format and consisted of an informal photo shoot about Boyle. Members met at the earlier time of 7.30pm on the Crescent and broke into a number of groups. The promise of a light-filled evening was short lived however as the unexpected darkening clouds played havoc with ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed settings and rickety tripods! However, this did not take away from an event that was as much about getting out and talking about light and photography as much as it was about attempting to capture it. Members regrouped at the Moving stairs to discuss their exploits over a sociable drink and contemplate the forth coming exhibition at the end of the month.

Members who wish to submit photos taken on the evening should email them to info@boylecameraclub.com Photos will be available to view HERE.

Photo Shoot in Carrick-on-Shannon

Sunday's Photo Shoot couldn't have been planned for a nicer day. The pleasant and warm summer sun was with us, 23 members took part, Carrick-on-Shannon looked resplendent and the short few hours we were there did not give us nearly enough time to take as many photographs as we would like. "A return visit" was a call I heard expressed and one I will certainly endorse.
Carrick-on-Shannon is our neighbour and as a County Town it is surely a most attractive one. "Mini City" might be an apt description, but in a nice way. The old town is still there, and now, down every laneway there are new developments.
St. George's Church is a credit to those involved. I was delighted to meet with John Breaden, one of its inspired and dedicated committee. John issued a welcome to the club to return and then he will be happy to give us the full tour, a talk on the history of Carrick and show us an accompanying video in the adjoining Centre's excellent Cinema Room.
My own set of photos are viewable [here...]
