Club Meeting - Wednesday 13th August

A full house once again for our August meeting, despite the wet and miserable weather. Those who were unable to attend can review the minutes from the meeting HERE.

Club members involved in the recording of the Boyle Arts Festival presented a selection of their images in a slideshow. More details HERE.

A great many members entered images for this months Motivation, the quality of submissions continues to rise and impress. Members can view the Motivation League as it currently stands HERE. The winning entry from each category will be submitted to the local newspapers for publication.

The Motivation Theme for September is; Food For Thought. A selection of images were presented on the theme to generate ideas and ways to approach the challenge in the weeks ahead.

There will be some links to relevant image libraries placed here shortly to assist members with ideas for the challenge.

Motivation entries should be received by Friday 5th September.

At the end of the meeting, Tony Murphy gave a presentation on the work of French Photographer, Robert Doisneau with emphasis on the famous photograph, 'Kiss by the Hotel de Ville' - 1950. This will be a regular inclusion at future meetings where some of the most famous and noteworthy photographs in history will be presented and discussed as part of a photographic appreciation slot. Image Editing Workshop - August 2008

Club Members come to terms with Image Editing using Adobe Photoshop.

Members of Boyle Camera Club participated in an evening workshop in Basic Image Editing on Wednesday 12th August. The workshop was presented by club Technical Advisor, Tony Murphy and assisted by Club Chairperson Sean O'Dowd, Ben Millett and Peter Boalch. This event is the first of its kind for members who found it informative and enjoyable. The club hope to run similar workshops relating to digital photography issues during the course of the coming year.

The club would like to extend their gratitude to Boyle HEC for the use of their facilities.

Notice - Club Meeting - Wednesday 13th August

The next meeting of Boyle Camera Club will take place on Wednesday 13th August at 7.30pm in King House Boyle. A full agenda is planned.

Submissions have been received for this months MOTIVATION. Members images can be previewed HERE in advance of voting at the club meeting.

There has been a great response to the Workshop scheduled for Tuesday 12th August. All places have now been filled, however, it is likely that the workshop will run again before the end of the month.

Boyle Camera Club was established in October 2007. It currently has over 65 members.
We are the first fully designated Digital Camera Club in Ireland and are affiliated to the Irish Photographic Federation.

Boyle Camera Club aims to provide -
An opportunity for members to learn more about photography.
Know-how in the use of digital cameras by means of presentations, tips, MONTHLY MOTIVATION LEAGUE, photoshoots and field trips etc.
A forum to discuss photography and related topics of interest.

The club is open to anyone with an interest in photography, compact camera or SLR, all are welcome. Feel free to come along to one of our meetings.

The Club meet every month in King House, Boyle, Co. Roscommon.

Digital Darkroom Workshop for BCC Members



Members have been notified that Boyle Camera Club will host a Digital Darkroom Workshop next Tuesday, 12th August 2008 from 7.00pm - 9.30pm at Boyle HEC (opposite Supervalue), Elphin Street.

The fee for this workshop is €10.00 and a maximum of 12 places are available. Reserve your place by contacting Tony on 087 2888 738.
Bring one or two photos (in camera, CD or Memory Stick) to use during the workshop if you wish.
Refreshments are provided.

The workshop aims to address Basic Image Editing Techniques for club photographers with little or no Image Editing experience. Participants will be introduced to Adobe Photoshop image editing software and how to use it to enhance their photos. The workshop will also cover how to prepare images for printing and sending images as email attachments.

A basic level of competency in using a computer is desirable.

This workshop will be delivered by Tony Murphy. Subject to demand, the workshop will run again later in August.

BCC Commissioned to Record Boyle Arts Festival


Opening Evening, Boyle Arts Festival 2008

A number of members from Boyle Camera Club were commissioned by Boyle Arts Festival to photograph the many events that took place during the week. The photographers were granted a Press Pass and took photos of the performing artists, exhibition venues and street scenes. It was an exceptionally busy but rewarding week. The collection of very fine images will be a valuable visual record of the event, capturing the excitement and atmosphere of a town dedicated to encouraging and celebrating the Arts for young and old alike.

Strokestown House Photoshoot DEFERRED
At our last Club Meeting, it was suggested that this months Photoshoot might take place at Strokestown House, Co. Roscommon. As a result of many members involvement in the organisation and supervision of our First Exhibition, the Committee feel it would be advisable to DEFER the Photoshoot until after our next Club Meeting (scheduled for Wednesday 13th August).

Photo Editing Workshop for Members
Members should know that club Technical Advisor, Tony Murphy, is currently trying to organise a WORKSHOP for the morning of Tuesday 12th August. This workshop is open to members that have difficulty with basic transfer of images from camera to computer, carrying out simple adjustments to images using photo editing software and attaching images to email. Tony will also discuss the setting up of a personal Flickr account. Details as to venue and cost will be sent via text to members. Places are limited to 12 and will be given on a first come first served basis. An additional workshop will be provided if the need arises.
