Camera Club Meeting - 11th March 2009

Galway School Bus Fire - Peter Boalch

This month's club meeting began with a presentation on Aperture. Tony Murphy explained the meaning of aperture and related terminology such as focal length, f-stop and depth-of-field. He also showed how controlling aperture can effect depth-of-field in the photographic image and how this applies to both SLR and digital compact camera users.

Conor Dowling presented this month's Motivation Exercise which included a critique of a selection of members submissions. Here the photographer and the floor are given the opportunity to discuss and comment on the photos. Conor also highlighted a number of competitions that will take place during March and April.

Next month's Motivation Exercise is 'People at Work', entries should be submitted to info@boylecameraclub.com before Wednesday 1st April. Members should ensure that they include their NAME and image TITLE in the File Name of the submission.

Christopher O'Connor informed the meeting that a photographic weekend is to be arranged during June to Achill Island in Co. Mayo. Members should inform Christopher of their intentions to participate at the next club meeting so that accommodation can be booked. It is likely that the event will take place after the June bank-holiday weekend.

Peter Boalch brought the meeting to a conclusion and presented a selection of his most recent photographic work. Peter has experimented with many photographic techniques this past year and was happy to share his ideas and experiences with members.

Club members will meet for the next Photo Shoot on The Crescent, Boyle at 8.30am Sunday 29th March. The shoot will proceed to Pontoon and Lough Conn and the Foxford Woolen Mills, Co. Mayo via Lough Talt in Co. Sligo.

Next club meeting will take place at 8pm, Wednesday 8th April in the Moving Stairs, Boyle.

Minutes of the meeting prepared by Dermot Devine available HERE.
