Club Meeting - Tuesday 10th December

Club Chairperson, Andy Rimmer opened the meeting. The main item here was the club's annual Christmas party scheduled for Friday 13th December in Dodd's Bar, Boyle.
As it turned out, the party was a relaxed and enjoyable event. The club are grateful to Dennis and his family, to Joe and all the musicians that contributed to the entertainment and 'Troy' for the food.

BCC Flickr Pool - Photo of the Month
Each month, club members registered with Flickr are encouraged to put their photos into the Boyle Camera Club Flickr Pool. From the pool, a committee member selects an image and discusses it at the beginning of the meeting. This month, Marion Noone selected Peter Kelly's photo, 'A Walk in the Park' and Jason Mallard selected Brian Munnelly's, 'Sligo Christmas Fayre'. Marion spoke about both images and her (and Jason's) reasons for the selection.

5-Minute Photo
Matthew Gammon spoke about one of his recent Black and White images.

Hugh Rooney presented his 'Valencia Project' and used it to discuss the principles of photographic composition, perspective, point of interest, framing and effective focal length. Hugh is a pbase user and says how he finds the site a very useful inspirational resource. He discussed how he usually spends considerable time researching his subjects and preparing for each photo excursion. His talk was inspirational and informative. View more of Hugh's work HERE.

Desmond O'Dwyer presented this month's Motivation. The theme for December was "Macro / Close-Up". Margaret Dolan and Martina Morris judged entries and Margaret gave a personal critiques on selected shots.
All entries HERE.

The January motivation theme is; "A Story" and should be ONE SINGLE shot, not four!

If your entry requires the "Story" to be told in say ... three shots or more, then consider making a Triptych, where shots are put into the same image.
Also,  remember that members may take a shot at any time from September 2013 for any future month's Motivation and the total number of shots that can be entered has increased to FOUR.

A reminder also that the title of each photo should be;
"MEMBERS NAME - CATEGORY (Beg, Int, Adv), IMAGE TITLE and MEMBERSHIP NUMBER" e.g. “John Fox - Beg – Autumn Evening Reflection – 104.jpg”

Entries should be re-sized so that a landscape format photo is 1024 pixels wide or if in portrait format the photo is 600 pixels high.
Entries on or before Friday 10th January  to;

Group Sessions
Beginners - Tony Murphy addressed using flash units both on and off camera.
Intermediate and Advanced - Matthew Gammon presented the work of one of his favourite photographers, Charlie Waite, to the group for discussion.
